Tim Zahn and
Necronomicon

In January of 1988 Stone Hill was looking for our next Guest of Honor. We had six Necronomoicons under our belt and we were getting pretty good at it. One member nominated a new writer based on the book she had read called "Cobra". Along with Alan Dean Foster, Timothy Zahn was chosen for that year.

Tim arrived on Thursday before the convention. We knew we had a winner when he sat down with us to stuff program books into goodie bags. Throughout the convention that year, his quick wit, and friendly availability was a hit with Fans and Staff alike.

I'm happy to say that Tim found us to be a good group of people too. So much so that he came back the next year just to have a good time. 2001 marked the third year that Tim Zahn had been our Guest of Honor. However, he has been in attendance at least TWELVE times since then.(maybe thirteen, we're a little hazy about '92) Around 1990, we made Tim, his wife Anna, and their son Corwin official members of Stone Hill. On some years, his badge has been half Guest, half Staff. Their continued support and friendship over the years has always been appreciated by their friends in Tampa.

A little over ten years ago Timothy Zahn was chosen by George Lucus to write the first official continuation of the Star Wars Saga. "Heir to the Empire" was the first, as most everyone knows. One thing they don't know is that he "Tuckerized" us in that novel.(i.e. using friends as character names) There are five people/place names taken from friends in Stone Hill. Also referenced were Necronomicon and Stone Hill itself. Was that majorly cool, or what?
